uPVC Windows & Doors
What is uPVC and how is it different from regular PVC?
uPVC stands for un-plasticised polyvinyl chloride. Unlike flexible PVC, it contains no plasticisers, making it rigid, durable, and dimensionally stable — ideal for window and door frames. It will not warp, rot, corrode, or attract termites, and it withstands heat, humidity, and salt air far better than wood or aluminium.
How long do uPVC windows last in Indian climatic conditions?
Quality uPVC windows last 25–30 years or more in Indian conditions. The profiles are UV-stabilised for tropical sun, resist Chennai’s humidity and coastal salt air, and need only basic cleaning. We supply profiles engineered specifically for the Indian climate.
Do uPVC windows turn yellow in Chennai’s heat?
Premium uPVC profiles are UV-stabilised with titanium dioxide and will not yellow under Indian sun. Yellowing only occurs with low-grade, non-stabilised profiles. We use branded, UV-resistant profiles backed by manufacturer warranties.
How do uPVC windows reduce my electricity bill?
The multi-chamber profile and tight weather seals create a thermal barrier that slows heat transfer into your home. Paired with the right glass (such as Low-E or double glazing), this reduces heat gain by up to 30–40%, lowering the load on air conditioning and your monthly bill.
What is the difference between a 3-chamber and 5-chamber uPVC profile?
Chambers are the hollow air cavities inside the profile. More chambers mean better thermal and acoustic insulation and greater rigidity. A 3-chamber profile suits most homes; a 5-chamber profile is recommended for high-rise buildings, very noisy locations, or where maximum energy efficiency is the goal.
Can I customise the colour of uPVC windows?
Yes. Beyond standard white, uPVC is available in cream, beige, grey, and wood-finish laminates (such as golden oak and walnut). Laminated finishes are bonded to the profile and do not peel or fade.
Are uPVC windows suitable for high-rise buildings?
Yes. With steel-reinforced profiles, toughened glass, and correct wind-load design, uPVC windows are widely used in high-rise residential and commercial towers. We calculate the right profile and reinforcement for the building height and wind zone.
How are uPVC windows maintained?
Maintenance takes about ten minutes a year: wipe the frames with a damp cloth and mild soap, check that drainage holes are clear, and occasionally lubricate the rollers and hinges. uPVC never needs painting, sealing, or polishing.
Can uPVC windows be repaired if damaged?
Yes. Individual components — rollers, handles, gaskets, locks, and even single glass panes — can be replaced without removing the whole window. This is far easier and cheaper than repairing wooden or aluminium frames.
Are uPVC windows approved by Indian standards (BIS)?
Reputable uPVC profiles conform to BIS standards (including IS 10974 for uPVC windows). We supply profiles from manufacturers that meet these standards, and we can provide documentation on request.
What are the disadvantages of uPVC windows?
The main considerations are that very large spans may need steel reinforcement, low-grade profiles can yellow (which is why brand matters), and the colour palette, while wide, is more limited than painted surfaces. For most Indian homes the long-term benefits clearly outweigh these points.
uPVC sliding or casement windows — which should I choose?
Sliding windows are space-saving and ideal where there is no room for a sash to swing out — balconies, passages, and compact rooms. Casement windows open fully outward for maximum ventilation and the tightest weather seal, suiting bedrooms and living rooms. Many homes combine both.
Glass Solutions
What type of glass is best for bathroom windows?
Frosted glass is the most popular choice for bathroom windows in India for its balance of privacy and light. We recommend toughened frosted glass (minimum 5mm) for safety, and stock a range of patterns from simple satin frost to decorative floral and geometric designs.
What is the difference between toughened and tempered glass?
They are the same thing — “toughened” and “tempered” are interchangeable terms. The glass is heat-treated to be 4–5 times stronger than ordinary glass, and if it ever breaks it shatters into small blunt granules rather than sharp shards, which is why it is classed as safety glass.
Is double glazing worth it in Chennai?
Double glazing (two glass panes with an air gap) noticeably reduces heat gain and outside noise. In Chennai it is most worthwhile for air-conditioned rooms, homes on busy roads, and premium projects. For many homes, a single Low-E or solar-control pane offers a more cost-effective middle ground — we help you weigh the trade-off.
What is Low-E glass and should I use it in Tamil Nadu?
Low-E (low-emissivity) glass has a microscopically thin coating that reflects infrared heat while letting visible light through. In Tamil Nadu’s hot climate it keeps interiors cooler and protects furnishings from UV fading, making it an excellent choice for sun-facing windows.
How thick should glass be for uPVC windows?
For most residential uPVC windows, 5mm toughened glass is standard. Larger panels, sliding doors, and high-rise applications use 6–8mm or double-glazed units. We specify thickness based on panel size, location, and wind load.
What is laminated glass and when is it recommended?
Laminated glass bonds two panes with a clear interlayer, so if it breaks the fragments stay stuck to the film. It is recommended for safety-critical areas, overhead glazing, skylights, balcony railings, and where security or sound reduction matters.
Can broken toughened glass be repaired?
No — toughened glass cannot be repaired or re-cut once made; it must be replaced. All cutting, drilling, and edge-work is done before toughening. We measure precisely and supply made-to-order toughened panels.
What glass patterns are available for bedroom and bathroom windows?
We stock clear, satin/plain frost, and decorative patterns including leaf, floral, mandala, and geometric designs, plus reflective and tinted options. All decorative privacy glass is available in toughened safety grade.
What is solar control glass?
Solar control glass has a coating or tint that reflects a large portion of the sun’s heat while maintaining natural light and outward visibility. It is ideal for facades, large windows, and west-facing rooms in Tamil Nadu, reducing cooling costs and glare.
Do you supply glass for staircase railings and partitions?
Yes. We supply and install toughened and laminated glass for staircase railings, balcony railings, office partitions, shower enclosures, and shopfronts, with a choice of clear, frosted, or tinted finishes and quality hardware.
Aluminium
When should I choose aluminium over uPVC?
Choose aluminium for very large spans, slim sightlines, commercial facades, curtain walls, and contemporary architectural designs where strength-to-weight and a precise metallic finish matter. uPVC is usually the better choice for thermal efficiency and low maintenance in homes.
How long does powder coating on aluminium last?
Quality powder coating lasts 15–20 years or more. The colour is electrostatically applied and oven-cured into a hard, even finish that resists fading, chipping, and corrosion — available in a wide range of custom colours and textures.
Do you handle commercial curtain wall and facade systems?
Yes. We fabricate and install aluminium curtain wall systems, structural glazing, and designer facades for commercial buildings, working from architect specifications with proper wind-load and structural design.
PVC & WPC Doors
What is the difference between PVC and WPC doors?
PVC doors are lightweight, fully waterproof, and ideal for bathrooms and utility areas. WPC (wood-plastic composite) doors are denser and stronger with a natural wood-like feel, suited to bedrooms and main internal doors. Both are termite-proof and far more moisture-resistant than solid wood.
Are WPC doors better than wooden doors?
For Indian conditions, often yes. WPC doors resist water, termites, and warping, need no polishing, and cost less than premium hardwood — while closely mimicking the look of wood. Solid wood still wins purely on traditional feel and very heavy-duty main doors.
